To order Carrera prescription glasses, you will need your current lens prescription including your PD measurement (pupillary distance). Then, ordering is easy. Just choose your frame, select your lens options, and select "Add your prescription." Enter your prescription details in the Rx Wizard, then add to cart and checkout.

Unfortunately, we are not able to request prescriptions directly from a doctor or clinic. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protects your health data and requires that you make the request. Once you have a copy of your prescription, you can complete your order.

If you have questions about reading your prescription, checkout our [Tips for understanding and reading your prescription] page.

We recommend that you get an eye exam at your local vision center for the most current prescription possible. If your current prescription is still valid, contact your doctor for a copy. Be sure to include your PD (pupillary distance) measurement.

We're glad you like your Carrera prescription glasses enough to get a second pair, but we require that you enter your prescription any time you place a Carrera prescription order. We recommend that you get an eye exam before ordering, so your new Carrera glasses have the most up-to-date prescription possible.

Most eyewear prescriptions are good for two years, but expiration dates can vary by doctor and prescription needs. Most vision plans cover an annual eye exam, so we recommend that you get a fresh eye exam before ordering for the most up-to-date prescription possible.

Single Vision

Prescription Format:

• Typically presented in a grid format with fields like OD, OS, SPH, CYL, etc.
• Values may be entered digitally or handwritten by the doctor.

SPH and CYL:

• Sphere (SPH):** Indicates lens power for nearsightedness (-) or farsightedness (+).
• Cylinder (CYL):** Corrects astigmatism, with a (+) or (-) sign.

PD (Pupillary Distance):

• Measured in millimeters (mm).
• Can be a single number (e.g., 64) or two numbers (e.g., 31/33).
• Important for aligning lenses correctly in front of each eye.

Progressive Lenses

ADD (Addition):

• Applies magnifying power for near vision.
• Always noted with a (+) sign.
• Designations like DV (Distance Vision) and NV (Near Vision) may be specified.

Understanding Specific Entries

PLANO/PL under SPH:

• Indicates no correction needed for nearsighted or farsighted vision.
• Enter 0.00 in the SPH section of the Rx wizard.

SPHERE/SPH/S/DS under CYL:

• Indicates no correction needed for astigmatism.
• Enter 0.00 in the CYL section of the Rx wizard.

Multiple ADD Values:If your prescription lists multiple ADD values, enter the one with PAL (Progressive Add Lens) into the ADD section of the wizard.

OD and OS

OD (Oculus Dexter) and OS (Oculus Sinister):

• Latin terms for right eye (OD) and left eye (OS).
• Also seen as O.D. and O.S. respectively.
• OU may reference both eyes, and RE and LE may also be used.

Additional Details

Ax (Axis):

• Specifies the angle for astigmatism correction (1 to 180 degrees).
• Always accompanies CYL if listed in the prescription.

Prism:

• Corrects double vision or vision displacement.
• Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate prescriptions requiring Prism corrections.

Measuring PD (Pupillary Distance):

• Measures the distance between your pupils.
• Obtain the most accurate PD by visiting your doctor or using tools like AccuPD.
• Two-number PD (e.g., 31/33) is preferable for custom-made eyewear.

Pupillary distance measures the distance between your pupils. It's a crucial measurement for ensuring that your eyewear is properly aligned to your eyes.

If it's not included in your prescription, you can visitAccuPD, a free tool that measures your PD.

However, to obtain the most accurate PD reading, a Call or Visit to your Dr. would be advised.

If you prefer, you can also measure your PD yourself following the steps below with a ruler and mirror. It's important to measure from the center of one pupil to the center of the other.

1. Stand 8–12 inches away from a mirror.
2. Hold a ruler against your brow or cheekbones.
3. Close your right eye and align the ruler end with the center of your left pupil.
4. Look straight ahead, close your left eye, and open your right eye. Note the measurement to the center of your right pupil.

• PD is measured in mm and can be one number like 64 or two numbers like 31/33.
• The first number in a two number PD is the Right or OD.
• Getting the two-number PD is always the best choice when creating custom-made eyewear as it centers each Rx in front of each eye, versus the less accurate method of dividing the single number by two.

What is the difference between single-vision and progressive lenses?

• Single-vision lenses provide a single correction value throughout the entire lens. These are typically used for either distance vision (e.g., driving) or close-up vision (e.g., reading).
• Progressive lenses offer multiple correction values within a single lens. This allows you to have both distance and close-up vision correction in one pair of glasses, eliminating the need to switch between different pairs.

What is the difference between progressive lenses and transition lenses?

• Progressive lenses focus on providing multiple correction values in one lens, allowing for seamless transitions between different focal distances (distance, intermediate, near).
• Transition lenses (also known as light-sensitive or photochromic lenses) are designed to change tint based on UV light exposure. They appear clear indoors and automatically darken to a sunglass tint when exposed to sunlight.

Does Carrera offer light-responsive (photochromic) lenses?

• Carrera offers light-responsive, or photochromic, lenses. These lenses automatically adjust from clear to tinted when exposed to sunlight (UV light). Please note that this option is only available with our prescription eyeglasses, and not with our prescription sunglasses.

Does Carrera offer bifocal or progressive lenses?

• Carrera offers fully custom progressive lenses to provide you with a comprehensive vision solution. However, we do not offer prescription bifocal lenses. We do, however, offer a few frame models that come with non-prescription bifocal readers.

Do Carrera prescription glasses offer protection from blue light?

• Yes, we offer blue-light filtering lenses. You will see an add-on option when creating your order.

Do Carrera lenses protect from UV Sunlight?

• Our clear lenses and tinted sunglass lenses filter out harmful UV rays.

Customers may be able to use their FSA or HSA funds to purchase eligible prescription eyewear, including prescription glasses or prescription sunglasses. Eligibility for reimbursement is determined by the customer’s plan administrator.

Please note:

• Only prescription eyewear typically qualifies as an eligible medical expense.
• Non-prescription (plano) glasses and non-Rx sunglasses usually do not qualify for medical reimbursement.
• Some FSA/HSA cards require specific merchant coding or approval systems. As a result, not all cards may process automatically at checkout. Customers can still purchase using another payment method and submit receipts to their plan administrator for reimbursement.
• Plan administrators may require supporting documentation, such as an itemized receipt and a valid prescription.

For questions about coverage, eligibility, or required documentation, customers should contact their insurance provider or FSA/HSA administrator directly.

If you need multiple pairs of glasses with different prescriptions — like a pair for you and a pair for your spouse or a pair for reading and a pair for driving — you can simply add another prescription to a second pair of glasses in the same order. However, the glasses will most likely ship separately. You can also order a helmet (or other Smith products) and a pair of prescription glasses in the same order.

Yes, you can order prescription glasses as a gift, but you will need the recipient's current prescription details including their PD measurement (pupillary distance).

We aren't able to match a prescription from an existing pair of glasses. All Smith prescription orders require you to submit your prescription along with your order.

Glass lenses are not currently available for prescription products.

We are not able to accommodate prism correction at this time. Your local vision center may be able to order Fresnel or a press-on prism lens that will work with Carrera prescription glasses. Be sure to confirm any third-party add-on before ordering your Carrera prescription glasses.

Frame dimensions vary by model, and some styles are available multiple sizes. Our broad range of models offers varied fits to accommodate different head shapes and style preferences.

To ensure a comfortable and secure fit for your Carrera sunglasses, it's essential to choose the correct frame size. Here's how you can determine if a frame will fit you:

1. Check Frame Measurements:

• Frame Measurements: Each product page on the Carrera website includes detailed frame measurements. These measurements typically include the lens width, bridge width, and temple length.

• Comparison: Compare these measurements to a pair of sunglasses or eyeglasses you currently own that fit you well. Look for similar measurements to ensure a comparable fit.

2. Size Characteristic:

• Overall Size Characteristic: In addition to specific measurements, Carrera provides an overall size characteristic for each frame, such as small, medium, or large. This gives you a quick idea of the general fit.

3. Fit Similar to Other Glasses:

• Look for Similar Styles: If you have other sunglasses or eyeglasses that fit well, seek out Carrera frames with similar dimensions and shape.

Carrera frames (and most other brands) have several numbers printed on the inside of one temple arm. These numbers typically refer to the lens width, bridge width, and temple arm length of the frame. Our product page displays four measurements — lens width, lens height, bridge width, temple length — under the product image. We recommend comparing the measurements of your current glasses to the product measurements on the Carrera website.

If you need a frame adjustment, we recommend visiting your local vision store. Most places will make small adjustments for free.

All Carrera Rx / prescription eyewear products come with a two-year guarantee from defects in workmanship and manufacturer materials.
